Manchester International Festival – What’s on

Manchester International Festival the biennial international arts festival is due to start soon for what will be an amazing 18 days with many incredible acts being announced. It was only in February when Arcade Fire was announced and tickets flew out of the door, selling out in mere hours. With the summer goodness of the recent heatwave you would be crazy to miss out.

MIF 2017 will include free and paid events across an assortment of city centre venues. So for those of you who have missed out on your ticket, you can still catch some amazing events but make sure to check them out online first, as some of them while ‘free’ still require you to have a ticket beforehand.

Must see shows

10,000 Gestures

10,000 Gestures is a dance routine that you absolutely have to see.  Boris Charmatz’s dancers literally create 10,000 gestures with none of them repeated twice. It is a pure exercise in constant preparation and memory, hell I can’t even remember what I had for dinner the previous day and when I can that is an achievement in on its own.

Charmatz has gone on to say he has come up with something 'joyous and melancholy, ephemeral and unforgettable.'

If you are as curious as I am, you can catch the show at the Mayfield Depot from the 13th – 15th July.

Tickets – From £12

Party Skills For The End of the World

This show looks to make you think of the big question ‘what would you do if the world as you know it was ending?’ would you look on in despair? Or would you celebrate?

The act argues that as the collapse of civilisation closes in, we should look at the good things that fear stops us from enjoying.

Conceived by Nigel Barrett and Louise Mari of Shunt Collective – who create performances ‘for people who don’t really like theatre. Not only trying to be an enjoyable show, Skills for the End of the World offers a chance to learn a blend of survival techniques, like how to start a fire, clean and stitch a wound, pick a lock and skin a rabbit, and more entertaining forms of expertise like mixing a martini or making balloon animals.

If you’re like me and can’t even make beans on toast correctly then checking out this ambitious and entertaining show could be in your interest. You can catch Skill for the End of the World at the Centenary Building from the 27th June – 16th July.

Tickets – From £12

Dark Matter has so much musical variety and that’s what makes it special and allows your musical taste buds to experience something you thought you’d hate. The line-up takes in everything from drone metal to freeform jazz, street poetry to radical electronica.
