Moving to Altrincham

Whatever your motivation to move home, whether for work, family or just a desire for change, re-locating any distance can mean massive upheaval.

Simply choosing which area to start looking can be daunting. If you are set on a move to the suburbs, Altrincham is one of the prime residential areas in Cheshire.

So, why move to Altrincham?

It’s connected

Altrincham has many transport links at its disposal. It is very close to Manchester airport which is ideal for those early morning flights! This is also a reason why it is a very popular area to live for airport staff.

It has great transport links to Manchester city centre via the metrolink, train and the M60. For commuters travelling in and out Manchester City Centre, it only takes just over half an hour, weather and traffic permitting!

Travelling further afield? The M6 is only 20 minutes away connecting with Birmingham and London to the South, Lancaster and the Lakes to the North.

Education

The Cheshire town has an excellent reputation for its high standards of education, was crowned the Sunday Times education capital of Britain in 2013. Altrincham Girls’ and Altrincham Boy’s Grammar are in the Town, along with several respected primary schools. To search all the schools in tha area visit School Search.

Nightlife

Not too bad for nightlife either, there are plenty of eateries and bars in the town centre. From Italian restaurants such as Sugo and Coco, to the French themed Francs the variety is excellent. For any celebrity spotters head to the neighbouring towns of Wilmslow, Alderley Edge and Prestbury, popular among the areas’ rich and famous!. In the nearby village of Hale you will find Earle, the restaurant of award winning celebrity chef and co-host of the Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch, Simon Rimmer.

As well as the local parks, the popular commuter town is home to an award winning market, recently given the title of ‘Best Local Market’ in the Observer Food Monthly Awards at the end of 2015.

Altrincham hosts a lot of festivals throughout the year such as the Altrincham French Festival in the middle of July. It is organised as a way to bring people together to celebrate French food, drink and all things Gallic!

Parks

Altrincham is a peaceful, leafy town with many parklands nearby such as the National Trust’s Dunham Massey and Tatton Park, great for walks and other weekend activities. There is also an award winning park in the vicinity in Stamford Park, very popular with families. It was the recipient of a Bronze award from the Greenspace Award Scheme in 2013.

House Prices in Altrincham

As far as property goes, Altrincham has many differing types with large detached houses to modern flats in the town centre. Figures of completed sales from January to May in 2016 showed the average detached house in Altrincham was sold for £726,000. Terraced houses were selling on average for £287,500 and flats for £257,000. Data from The Land Registry data on prices paid for properties sold in England and Wales.

The rental market is also extremely strong, with rents reaching anywhere from £1750 upwards a month for a four bedroom detached house and around £700-800 is the asking price for a flat depending on factors such as furnished versus unfurnished.

Altrincham Branch Manager Simon Tattersall commented, “The rental market in Altrincham is extremely competitive with each property attracting multiple potential tenants. Properties are letting very quickly; recently we had two houses on Tithebarn Road which both let within 24 hours of each other. We are finding that demand is particularly high, especially for 2 or 3 bed properties within walking distance of the town centre.”
