Packing Your Home to Move
I believe packing is an activity that few people look forward to. If that inevitable day is on the horizon, why not use our top five packing tips when moving home!
Create an inventory
Creating an inventory is a great way to keep track of all your belongings and make sure that nothing goes missing during the move. There is nothing worse than discovering something forgotten weeks later when you really need it.
Take some photos
When I replace desktop towers I make sure to take photographs of how the wires are set up and what they are for and the same should go for your move. I would recommend taking photographs of any wires used for your electric hook-ups such as, Google Chromecast, computer, television. I find that it is a great way to keep track of what goes where and what it is used for.
I would also recommend labelling your wires so that you know what they are for. I can’t count the amount of times I’ve tried to find the correct plug for an appliance.
Get rid of unnecessary items
Selling items that you no longer want is a great way to make things easier when it comes to your move out. Go to a car boot sale, give your items to charity or use sites such as eBay to get rid of items you no longer need.
Personally I’ve found Facebook Market is a great way to get items sold fast and efficiently.
Start packing early
Packing always takes longer than anticipated so start packing as early as possible. It’s easy to leave things to last minute, but by packing up a month early you can save yourself from a lot of stress when it comes to moving day. Typically if you are packing for a larger home, start by packing up the rooms you use less frequently.
It’s easy to try and stuff as much as you can into a single box. You might end up regretting it when the box rips apart and you have to start all over again. Make sure to follow the 30 pound per box rule which is not only beneficial to your back, but also to your belongings.
