New Development in Manchester

New Development in Manchester is booming, The Deloitte Manchester Crane Survey 2019 reported that the number of newly completed units represents the highest delivery since 2006. The Survey also states that the number of residential units being built is now at its highest level since 2008. There are a planned 7,127 residential units due for completion over the next year in the city center alone.

Employment & the Economy

The economy in Manchester is one of the fastest-growing in the UK and the City is rated as the second most globally influential city in the UK after London. It is also the fastest-growing British economy outside London with a GDP of £62 billion and it is home to over 2,000 foreign enterprises.

The Official Labour Market reports that the number of employees in Manchester saw an increase of 6.7% from 2012-2019 with the city center ward standing at 5.3%.

HS2 is planning to connect the north and south which will reduce travel time to 8 major cities, this is expected to contribute to increased job growth of 63,000 by 2038.


Manchester has three Universities, The University of Manchester, which is amongst the UK’s top ten, Manchester Metropolitan University, and Salford University.

There are around 14 other higher educational institutions. With Manchester’s reputation as a multicultural city, international students are a major part of the student population.

Manchester has one of the largest student communities in Europe, the total student population within an hours drive of Manchester City Centre is reported as around 350,000. There is a high number of opportunities for housing aimed at the student market for this reason alone.

Manchester Airport is the 22nd busiest in Europe and the largest outside of London. It is easily accessible from the city center being only a 20/30 minute drive or under 20 minutes by direct train and tram links.

The Metrolink tram system consists of seven lines linking the city center with Altrincham, Ashton-under-Lyne, Bury, East Didsbury, Eccles, Manchester Airport and Rochdale.

The train from Manchester to London takes just over two hours and there is an expansion planned for the rail network with HS2, High-Speed Train which will directly link the city centres of: London, Birmingham, Leeds, and Manchester.
